The benefits of a £1 million community project based at the NETPark technology park in County Durham have been highlighted to European business bosses.
Delegates from the European Commission visited the NETPark Incubator building, in Sedgefield, to learn about how the community engagement drive encourages disadvantaged local communities and schools in science and innovation projects, entrepreneurship skills, and in raising aspirations and giving careers advice.
The NETPark Incubator building, run by County Durham Development Company (CDDC), will feature a dedicated community exhibition and meeting space as part of the project to help link science, enterprise and sustainability, and allow the local community on site for visits.
CDDC managing director Stewart Watkins said: "NETPark has the capability to create thousands of jobs and it's essential that we can draw upon local communities in the region to supply this workforce over the next five, 10 or even 20 years.
"This project is vital for inspiring young people and adults to engage with science, understand the impact of technology on our daily lives and realise that they can have a career right here in the North East."
