CPI -The Centre for Process Innovation
The process industries are the biggest generator of wealth in the North East and one of the major employers, with over 30,000 jobs in the chemical sector alone. These companies rely on CPI for a significant proportion of the industrial R&D conducted in the area and a high percentage of the required technical skills.
The Centre is directed to prove excellence in new processes, new products and new energy and hosts Nanocentral and The National Industrial Biotechnology Facility.
CPI incorporates a national centre for emerging small-scale technologies and works closely with industry, from multinationals to high-tech start-ups, investors, government agencies and leading researchers to stimulate and manage market-led innovation, thus enabling the development of new products as well as strengthening the regional economic foundation, R&D capabilities and performance. CPI also manages PETEC at NETPark.
CPI now incorporates Cenamps, the Centre of Excellence for micro and photonic systems and hosts the UK Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network.
