An Improved Microgripper for Cell Manipulation

There is a growing need for individual cell manipulation in a wide range of research applications including stem cell sorting, gene and molecular delivery, cellular diagnostics, and single cell-based assays. When compared with data-averaging over a cell population, direct physical cell manipulation offers the researcher much more precise selection and understanding of cell properties.

Description
Set up to exploit technology generated by Professor Fred Rowell of the University of Sunderland (and Chief Scientific Officer of ROAR), ROAR is involved in the research, development and manufacturing of nanotechnology derived particles for commercial applications. In the short to medium term, the company will concentrate in supplying nanoparticles used for forensic, immigration and sports testing applications.

ROAR has a unique opportunity to revolutionise the market for latent fingerprint powders which record and define fingerprints. ROAR's product goes much further than existing technology - it can define fingerprints in much greater definition, detect the presence of products such as cocaine, nicotine, antidepressants, sedatives, etc. and their metabolites even in smeared prints, define gender and harvest minute quantities of skin cells for DNA analysis.

Joe Arend, CEO of ROAR commented "We chose NETPark because of the availability of dedicated lab space and the opportunity to draw highly skilled personnel from North East universities."
