An "intelligent tyre" that can monitor driving conditions and even anticipate control problems has been announced by Pirelli.
An "intelligent tyre" that can monitor driving conditions and even anticipate control problems has been announced by Pirelli.
A microchip will supply information to the driver and communicate in real time with the car`s electronic devices, such as the ESP and the ABS.
The Cyber Tyre is expected to be available in early 2010 and will incorporate a sophisticated electronic device to supply detailed and precise information on the state of the tyre.
A triaxial accelerometer, which can measure acceleration on the three Cartesian axes - length, width and height - will provide data on the actual and potential friction coefficients (the force of the contact between tyre and road) and on the load.
The real innovation is that this sensor, unlike current devices on cars that intervene only after a driving mistake has already been made, will be able to correct wrong driving behaviour in advance.
