Up to 1,200 jobs are set to come to Cheshire thanks to a £25m investment at the Daresbury science park, a development agency has said.

Up to 1,200 jobs are set to come to Cheshire thanks to a £25m investment at the Daresbury science park, a development agency has said.

The scheme will use nine acres of the Warrington site for research and development activity, the North West Development Agency (NWDA) said.

Ian Pearson, minister for science and innovation, announced the money during a tour of the park.

"The Government is committed to Daresbury expanding as an internationally renowned centre of science and innovation," he said.

"This announcement demonstrates that the future for the site is an exciting one.

"The North West Development Agency and its partners are to be congratulated for this next stage of development at Daresbury.

"Their vision for the site is strongly shared by the Government."

Daresbury was created by the NWDA and the Science & Technology Facilities Council in partnership with the Universities of Liverpool, Lancaster and Manchester and Halton Borough Council.

Work on the expansion plan, funded by the NWDA, will begin later this year and should be complete by Spring 2009.
