Quality of Life

September 2007 - Durham is voted the best city in the UK by readers of the prestigious Condé Nast travel magazine

qualityoflife

County Durham is a beautiful County which constantly delights visitors. Its landscape is one of contrasts, ranging from the wild splendour of the Pennine hills in the west to the limestone cliffs along its east coast.

Durham is also a County of great historical importance, much of it connected with its fascinating heritage and the powerful Prince Bishops who in centuries gone by wielded as much power as the monarchs of the day.

The County can also boast a World Heritage Site, in the form of the stunning Durham Cathedral and Castle, and a number of nationally renowned museums.

Although the County is proud of its history it also looks to the future, working to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives and works here. New housing developments, with property prices significantly below the national average, new schools, modern community centres and sports complexes, and excellent shopping facilities close at hand all add to County Durham's appeal.

And it is a great location for business, with a package that includes an outstanding environment, excellent facilities and a committed and adaptable workforce.

Supported by some of the best universities in the UK, it is a County of innovation and enterprise as well as a beautiful place in which to live.

The Lonely Planet's recently issued Bluelist states the North East is the 'most exciting, beautiful and friendly region in the whole of England.' As quoted in the Metro Newspaper.
