Research and knowledge transfer are at the heart of the University of Teesside's work with business and society, with established research centres providing the focus for leading-edge work in engineering, computing, health, society and the cultural industries.

Current activities include work by Teesside's Clean Environment Management Centre (CLEMANCE) to restore land damaged by industry and generate renewable energy, and the construction research group's partnership with a major international consulting company to develop ground-breaking software.

Nanotechnology researchers are working with academics across Europe on a major initiative developing sensors to detect deep vein thrombosis, while Teesside's research into maternal and childhood obesity is helping to shape NHS policy.

The Middlesbrough-based University is also a lead partner in DigitalCity, an ambitious regional initiative to develop a world-class digital sector.

Teesside actively supports Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with industry. Two Teesside graduate-associates recently won national 'Business Leader of Tomorrow' awards, while another Teesside KTP is helping North East Company of the Year Wellstream International to improve its management of technology.
