Location
Strategically located for UK and EU markets
Lying at the heart of the North East of England, County Durham provides a strategic location to serve the profitable and compact UK market as well as being ideally placed for entry to mainland Europe and the trading area of the EU, which is larger than the US.
The North East region has a positive climate for business overall: the region has a faster job creation rate than London, is ranked 5th in the country for new business creation, and 95% of businesses have invested in some form of online technologies. In 2005, 80% of manufacturers increased turnover and 53% of companies increased their workforce in the same year.
The roads at NETPark are named in honour of some of the North East figures who have made a major contribution to science and technology.
Thomas Wright (1711-1786) was born at Byers Green in County Durham. Truly a man of many talents he was an astronomer, mathematician, instrument maker, architect and garden designer.
Sir Joseph Swan (1828-1914) was born at Sunderland. A physicist and chemist, he played a central role in the development of electric lighting and also invented a dry photographic process.
